On the day of Vijay Dashami, the effigies of Ravana are burnt to mark the victory of good over evil.

The festival also starts the preparation for Diwali, the country’s biggest and widely celebrated festival of lights, which is observed twenty days after the Vijayadashami or Dussehra.
